I’ve spent the last 6 months thinking about grief
And loss
Of loved ones
Moments in time
Past and potential versions of myself
Growing up I heard grief has steps, like a staircase to somewhere above all the hurt
When really
Grief is a flat circle
It’s everything and it’s all the time
A constant weight
Days are both painfully normal & strangely surreal at the same time
You don’t feel in motion but you see yourself moving
It’s like watching a sitcom but with no laugh track
A photo album where all the faces are just a little too blurry to recognize
And everyone wants to help
Or want to seem like they want to help
It’s all very nice
They conjure up serene and beautiful ways to mourn
I would like to just smash some shit
Then eat an entire box of cupcakes
They tell me to do yoga
Be sure and go for a walk
Get plenty of sun
Talk to friends
And I do
I work out
I take deep breaths and learn new skills
But grief isn’t some bad day you can mindful your way out of
There’s not a walk long enough
The sun can’t fix it
